Founder of Mamud Band, Lorenzo Gasperoni loves to define himself as a “percussionist explorer”. He is a frame drummer, a darbuka player, a drummer and a composer.
He started his musical education, studying classical percussions. Meanwhile, he developed a strong interest in the ethnic percussion, which became for him a parallel journey into music.
He learned to play darbouka, riqq, djembe, Arabian and West African music, In 1997 he continued his studies by travelling to Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Benin, Southern India (Tamil Nadu and Kerala), and Cuba.
Since 2000 Lorenzo has held variety of courses, workshops and lectures about dance, percussions and African culture, commissioned by private and public institutions all over Europe, Canada, India and USA.
During is career he has played with world-renowned artists: the drum legends Stewart Copeland, Tony Allen and Paco Sery Mark King (Level 42), the father of funk Fred Wesley, the moroccan composer Jamal Houassini, the virtuoso organist Brian Auger, the trumpet legend Lester Bowie. He has also played with Paolo Fresu, Mauro Pagani, Giovanni Venosta, Alfio Antico, Famoudou Don Moye and many others.
